Cooking by itself can be challenging enough for people who don’t have tons of time, expansive kitchens, or gourmet ingredients for regular use. I myself am no stranger to 60 hour work weeks, apartment sized kitchens, or resigned purchases of canned ingredients. I am certainly sympathetic to the frustration of accidentally burning meals, having to throw away 3-week old rotten produce, and constantly being short on tupperware.

For all my recent culinary successes, I can think of countless pitfalls that stood in the way of getting a single gosh darn meal on the table. Yet despite all the setbacks, I’ve really taken much of the kitchen struggle in stride and have begun to collect a series of shortcuts — tips, tricks, and recommended tools — that have helped me take some of the stress out of cooking.
